Lookout Lighthouse ferry dock closed due to storm damage
The ferry dock at Cape Lookout Lighthouse sustained substantial damage during the most recent winter storm and will be closed to the public until repairs are complete. Until that time, park visitors should not use the dock for any purpose, Cape Lookout National Seashore officials said Tuesday.
Because the dock closure prevents ferry services from safely dropping off and picking up passengers, Island Express Ferry Service will suspend service out of Harkers Island for the month of January, or until a safe solution can be found.
Park staff reviewed the damage caused by the storm that brought freezing temperatures and winds greater than 50 mph and determined that the dock should be closed to the public until the damage is repaired is reopened for public use.
Island Express Ferry Service will continue to provide service out of their Beaufort location on their regular winter schedule. For additional information on scheduling ferry transportation, visitors can contact Island Express at 252-728-7433.
